1.Product name: Ammonium ferric citrate
2.Formula: (NH4)
XFe
y(C6H4O7)Z ,C6H8FeNO7
3.Formular weight:261.97
4.CAS:1185-57-5
5.H.S:291815
6.Character:
Brown or green scales or powder, odorless. Extremely soluble in water (1 g/0.5 mL). Its aqueous solution is nearly neutral, insoluble in ethanol and ether. It is prone to hydrolysis and mold growth when exposed to light, and it is hygroscopic in the air.The pH value of a 5% aqueous solution is approximately 5.0-8.0.. Both green and brown forms of ammonium ferric citrate are photosensitive, with the green form being more sensitive to light than the brown form. During exposure, the trivalent iron in the citrate is reduced to divalent iron.
7.Produce method :Dissolve iron hydroxide in citric acid, then neutralize with ammonia water. Concentrate at 60°C, crystallize, and dry to obtain the product.Prepare a solution of ammonia water and iron hydroxide, then add a small amount of ferric sulfate, and neutralize with citric acid to obtain the product.
8.Applications: In food industry Used as a nutritional supplement (iron fortifier) in dairy products, bread wheat flour, biscuits, milk powder, etc. It is not suitable for colorless foods. In China, it is permitted for use in salt and filled candies at levels of 4000-8000 mg/kg; in iron-fortified cereals and their products at 1200-1350 mg/kg; in dairy products and infant foods at 400-800 mg/kg; in cereals and their products at 160-330 mg/kg; and in beverages at 70-140 mg/kg.
In pharm produce: The brown form is used as a hematinic (blood tonic) to treat iron-deficiency anemia.
Industrial Field: Used in the photography industry and pharmaceutical manufacturing. It can also be used as an anti-caking agent. Additionally, paper coated with green ammonium ferric citrate and potassium ferricyanide (also known as blood red salt) is called blue printing paper. When exposed to light, the parts exposed to light turn blue, while the unexposed parts remain white, resulting in blue-bottomed, white-lined patterns.
